Winona Ryder (born Winona Laura Hornowitz) was born in Winona Minnesota. The name of her parents was derived from the town she grew up in. The father of her Michel Horowitz and her mother Cynthia Palmer were authors and editors. Ryder is a self-described Jewish, is descended from Ryder's Jewish father.
